The general is back? Aisha Buhari joins #ThisIsGMB trend on Twitter
Aisha Buhari, the wife of the president, has joined a thread, which is subtly calling her husband a general, a title he since dropped in 2015.
After coasting to victory with the name General Muhammadu Buhari (GMB), the president, who rose to become a major-general in the army and ruled as head of state, said he wants to be addressed as “Muhammadu Buhari, President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Federal Republic of Nigeria”.
Bola Tinubu, a national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC); Ibikunle Amosun, governor of Ogun state; and the president himself, said his return in 2015 was as a “reformed democrat”.
In February 2018, Boss Mustapha, secretary to the government of the federation, took it a step further by issuing a circular that mandated that Buhari should only be addressed as commander-in-chief of the armed forces at armed forces events.
“Government has observed with concern the inconsistent manner in which the President, Federal Republic of Nigeria is addressed during Official and Private functions. It has, therefore, become necessary to have a standard format for addressing him at such formal occasions,” Mustapha said.
“To this end, Mr. President shall henceforth be addressed as ‘MUHAMMADU BUHARI, PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA,’ except in purely Armed Forces Programmes, where ‘COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF OF THE ARMED FORCES OF FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA’ will be added.”
THE RETURN?
Speaking at the APC caucus meeting in Abuja on Monday, Buhari said those who snatch ballot box will pay with their lives, asking the police and the military to be ruthless against electoral malpractices.
“I really gave the military and police order to be ruthless,” Buhari said.
“Anybody who thinks he has enough influence in his locality to lead a body of thugs to snatch ballot boxes or disturbs the voting system, will do so at the expense of his own life.”
This led to various comments on social media about the return of the general — not the civilian president.

Her comments have been greeted by opposing views, while many opposition supporters are claiming that the wife of the president’s post is against the president, some reckon it is in support of her husband’s bid.

This is tyranny at it peak.
Dementia will not allow #GMB to understand that we are in democracy and we have due process to every action.
