This is to inform the general public that there has been a spam attack by unknown persons using TheCable’s email address as “sender”.

In a message being sent from two electronically faked addresses — simon.kolawole@thecable.ng and news@thecableng — the sender’s name is given as “Simon Kolawole”, the founder and CEO of TheCable.

The subject of the email is “[APPROVED] Your check for $7650!”

The message reads: Thank you for your dedication to our online cash system. We have just completed your earnings approval process and your commission check has been sent!

However, an integrity check by IT experts has concluded that TheCable’s email addresses were not hacked.

But the spammers appeared to have gained access to the address database of TheCable e-newsletter subscribers.

The IP address of the spammers has been traced to Malaysia, although it is possible they are using a proxy server.

TheCable has advised anyone who receives the mail not open it or click on the link but to simply mark it as spam.
