TheCable comes under ferocious cyber attack

This is to inform our readers that the website of TheCable, Nigeria’s independent online newspaper, has come under serious malicious attack since Monday.

Initial diagnosis by web security experts showed that it is a denial of service (DoS) attack, but the sources are yet to be identified.

It was also diagnosed that the attack has been building up for a while, but it got to a head on Wednesday morning with the site becoming temporarily inaccessible to users.

Although the security level for the website has been raised to the highest level, the side effects include delayed browser loading for verification purposes and an inability to share stories to Facebook directly from the site.

The major issue has been resolved but there could still be a few technical hitches as a result of the security level.
