TheCable, Nigeria’s independent online newspaper, has signed a partnership agreement with the Transition Monitoring Group (TMG), a coalition of over 400 civil society organisations, for the coverage of the 2019 general election.

The partnership will kick off on Saturday with the Osun governorship elections.

Through the partnership, both organisations will collaborate to keep readers abreast of happenings on the field.

Reporters and observers will be on ground to monitor the electoral process from accreditation to counting of votes and announcement of winners.

Known for giving live updates of major political events in the country, TheCable seeks to enrich its coverage of Osun election and the next general election through the deal with TMG.

With many trained reporters and professional photographers deployed across Osun, readers can be rest assured of being just a click away from  unlimited news and views on the poll.

Abiola Akiyode-Afolabi, chairperson of TMG, said the collaboration would promote election accountability and justice.

“TheCable is a credible news platform. This partnership will, therefore, provide quick and reliable information for the people,” she said.

“TMG is rooted with structures across the local governments and will use this to further support the work of TheCable by amplifying the voices of the mass of the people who ordinarily will not be heard through our election conference hall programme.”

Taiwo George, editor of TheCable, said the alliance will enhance the capacity of the platform.

“Since we launched in 2014, there is no major political event in the country that we have not covered through liveblog,” he said.
