TheCable wins award for innovative contribution to development journalism

TheCable has been honoured for its contribution to development journalism through the innovative use of data and statistics to promote development goals.

The Africa Centre for Development Journalism (ACDJ) presented the award on Saturday in Lagos at an event to mark the inaugural World Development Information Day.

Development Information Day is observed annually on October 24, as set aside by the United Nations (UN) to promote the use of relevant data, statistics and information for development goals.

ACDJ recognised TheCable for setting up TheCable Index and for using data to provide statistical context on a wide range of issues.

TheCable Index, the data arm of the online newspaper, has been promoting innovative reporting through data, research and policy analysis to improve accountability and governance.

Other media organisations who were presented awards include the International Centre of Investigative Reporting (ICIR), HumAngle, Media Rights Agenda (MRA) and Premium Times.

Premium Times was recognised for its efforts in promoting public interest development journalism by setting up a development desk.

The ICIR was recognised for its innovative investigative governance reporting, while the Media Rights Agenda was awarded for its contribution to journalism by promoting the use of freedom of information for the public.
