Monsuroh Abdulsemiu, a journalist with TheCable, has been selected for the Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) Journalism Fellowship for Nigerian journalists.
The fellowship, organised by the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) and supported by Co-Develop, is designed to deepen journalists’ understanding of digital governance, enhance storytelling on digital public goods and services, and promote accountability in the design and implementation of DPI across Africa.
The fellowship also aims to amplify public awareness, participation, and uptake of digital public infrastructure and goods through informed media narratives and public discourse.
According to MFWA, on Wednesday, 15 journalists were selected after a rigorous and highly competitive selection process that attracted nearly 200 applications, with 45 shortlisted before the final selection.

The cohort — eight males and seven females — represents a diverse mix of print, broadcast, and online journalists drawn from media organisations across Nigeria.
Over a six-month period, from October 31, 2025, to April 30, 2026, the fellows will undergo hands-on training, editorial mentorship, and gain access to a continental resource hub on Digital Public Goods (DPGs) and DPIs.
Sulemana Braimah, executive director of MFWA, said the initiative would help strengthen public discourse on Africa’s digital transformation.

“The DPI Journalism Fellowship represents a strategic investment in fostering informed and independent media narratives that shape public discourses around inclusive design, implementation, and uptake of DPI developments in the areas of policy, governance, and utility,” he said.
“We are grateful to Co-Develop for the partnership and support in making this initiative possible.”

Abdulsemiu, a graduate of mass communication from Lagos State University, began her journalism career in 2020.
