The house of representatives has asked the federal government to fix a bridge linking Nasarawa and Plateau states.
The lower legislative chamber asked the federal ministry of works and housing to complete the construction of the damaged bridge located in Akwanga, Nasarawa.
The house took the position on Tuesday after it adopted a motion sponsored by Jeremiah Umaru, a lawmaker from Nasarawa.
While moving the motion, Umaru lamented that a downpour that resulted in flooding destroyed the bridge, a major highway linking the north-central states.
The lawmaker said the incident has caused accidents and allowed armed robbers to attack motorists around the area.
“The bridge serves as a route for the transportation of goods and services to various parts of the country,” he said.
“This has resulted in an increased rate of accidents and frequent armed robbery attacks causing loss of lives and properties.”
The house also urged the Ecological Fund Office and the federal ministry of environment to proffer lasting solutions to flood and erosion-prone areas of Akwanga/Wamba/Nasarawa/Eggon federal constituency.
The motion was adopted after it was put to a voice vote by Tajudeen Abbas, the speaker.
