The abduction of some schoolgirls from Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe in Talata-Mafara local government area of Zamfara by gunmen has sparked off outrage on social media.

Residents who spoke with TheCable said gunmen invaded the community in the wee hours of Friday, went into the school and took some of the girls away.

“They attacked some houses along their way, and headed straight to the school,” Abubakar Jangebe, a resident said.

“They took some of the girls and went into the bush. We don’t know what is happening right now.”

The abduction of the schoolgirls comes a week after 27 schoolchildren from Government Science College, Kagara in Niger state were abducted by bandits.

The abduction in Zamfara has triggered outrage on social media platforms, especially on Twitter.

Users have registered their annoyance at the rising cases of kidnapping and the government’s seeming unresponsiveness.

A number of users have called for the shutting down of schools in the northern region of the country.

I woke up to a report of another abduction of about 300 schoolgirls at GSS Government Secondary School in Zamfara State by Islamic terrorists popularly known as bandits. They have industrialized terrorism, at this point, we should all be ashamed of this country,” a Twitter user said.

I am angry in my spirit this morning. 300 female students abducted in Zamfara. Students and parents don’t deserve this. Is it time this shambolic government and yeye northern governments shut down schools in the north,” another user said.
