Suspected robbers broke into the residence of the parents of Leah Sharibu, the only student of Government Girls Secondary School, Dapchi, Yobe state, still in Boko Haram custody.

They reportedly invaded the parents’ residence on Monday and carted away the family’s belongings, including food stuff and a generator set.

Sharibu is one of the 119 students abducted from the school by Boko Haram in February.

All the girls who were captured were subsequently released, except five who reportedly died in detention, but Sharibu was held back for “refusing to renounce her faith”.

Leah’s mother had just returned from dropping her only son at school for resumption on Monday, only to discover the house has been burgled.

No one was confirmed to have been attacked during the incident.

TheCable had reported how Sharibu pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari from captivity.

The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), a breakaway faction of Boko Haram, has kept her in captivity for seven months, sparking public outrage.

GOVERNMENT YET TO REACH OUT TO US, SAYS SHARIBU’S FATHER

The federal government had said it was making efforts to secure her release.

But in an interview with Voice of America, the Nathaniel Sharibu, the girl’s father, said no government official has reached out to the family since the kidnap incident.

“Since when they took these children from the school, the principal of the school, the chairman of Dapchi, the state government of Yobe and the federal government of Nigeria, none of them asked me about this issue up till now; none among them ask me about this girl,” he was quoted as saying.

“None of them has ever told me but I usually hear that they are trying to rescue her but as her father, no official called to tell me that this is what we are planning in order to rescue your daughter.”
