A flurry of reactions has been pouring in since the appointment of Yusuf Bichi as the new director-general of the Department of State Service (DSS).

Bichi was on Thursday appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari to take over from Matthew Seyeifa who was the acting director-general.

Seyifa was elevated to the position by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo while President Buhari was on vacation in London.

The appointment of Bichi has left a sour taste in the mouths of many Nigerians on social media, with the president being accused of tribalism.

The smart thing for PMB to have done, was to allow the acting DSS DG to hold forte at least for a year. The appointment of Bichi, has just provided fuel for the opposition to roast him and further demarketed him in the south, particularly in the south south.

Seiyefa was the ONLY Southerner heading an Intelligence agency. He was competent and loyal. In the interest of federal character and North South balance, President @MBuhari should have retained him. Bichi may be competent, but how can all Intelligence be headed by Northerners?
