Ahead of the September 19, 2020 gubernatorial election in Edo state, Steven Alufa, a three-time councillor and organising secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Umaza ward 3, Ovia south west local government area, has dumped the APC for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Alufa decamped with opposition party with “2,000 others” during a reelection campaign rally of Godwin Obaseki, the PDP candidate and Edo state governor, in the area.

Similarly, Bakare Isaac, chairman of the APC in ward 8, Ugbogui, Ovia south west LGA, “led 2,000 members” of the party into the PDP, promising to come out en masse to ensure victory for Obaseki at the poll.

“We have been winning elections for APC before now, but I have decided to follow Obaseki to PDP because of the way he was treated in the APC,” Isaac said.

“We are here with more than 2,000 people to decamp to PDP from APC. This is the only man that can do what we the people want. No more sharing of money; no more godfatherism in the state politics. We are here to work for the PDP.”

Leading the decampees in Umaza, Alufa noted: “I want to appeal to Umaza people to come out en masse to vote for the governor on September 19, 2020. You people did it for me before and made me a councillor three times. I am not decamping alone but decamping with 2,000 members from the APC to the PDP”.

Receiving the defecting APC members, Dan Orbih, chairman of Edo PDP campaign council, said all those appointed by Adams Oshiomhole have not brought any value to governance in the area.

“Governor Obaseki has done well across all sectors of the state. With your support, he will remain as the governor of Edo State to continue the good work of development which has continued to transform the lives of the people,” he said.
