Three hospitalised as gunmen attack former sports minister

Damishi Sango, former minister of sports, was attacked by suspected gunmen on Wednesday night.

Sango is the immediate past chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau state.

TheCable understands that the assailants attacked his residence in Ganawuri, Riyom LGA of the state.

Two police orderlies and a young boy were said to have suffered bullet wounds and have since been taken to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) for treatment.

Confirming the attack, Ubah Ogaba, police spokesman in the state, assured of the safety of Sango and his family members.

He said an investigation has commenced following the visit of Edward Egbuka, the state’s commissioner of police, to the crime scene.

“The former minister and his family are not hurt,” Ogaba said.

“The commissioner of police just left the scene of the crime. A team of detectives and intelligence officers has already commenced investigation and manhunt for the criminals.”

In 2017, Sango, who headed the ministry of sports under former president Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration, was kidnapped in Kaduna and his abductors demanded ₦100 million ransom.

He was, however, released five days later.
