Three officers injured as police foil bullion van robbery in Ondo

Armed robbers, on Thursday, attacked a bullion van conveying cash to Akure, the Ondo state capital, injuring three policemen.

The attack, which was foiled by security operatives, took place in Ondo town, headquarters of Ondo west LGA.

TheCable understands that after the failed attempt, security operatives were stationed in different locations in the community, causing panic among residents.

“The robbers didn’t succeed, the driver of the bullion van and the police team were alerted of the danger ahead, which made them to make a detour immediately.

“The robbers however gave them a hot chase and started shooting at them,” a resident said.

The resident added that the injured policemen have been taken to the hospital for medical attention.

The incident was the second attack in the last two weeks in Ondo state.

Gunmen had on July 15 attacked a bank in Ilaramokin, Ifedore LGA of the state, killing three persons including a journalist, Bunmi Afuye.
