‘Thugs’ attack convoy of LP candidate for Delta assembly

Suspected thugs have attacked the convoy of Harrison Gwamnishu, the Labour Party (LP) candidate of Aniocha south constituency, in the Delta state house of assembly.

The attack occurred in Ewulu, Aniocha south LGA of Delta state on Thursday.

The LP candidate in a Twitter post alleged that thugs of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were behind the attack.

“We have just been attacked in Ewulu, Aniocha South LGA. The PDP thugs were led by one Tony Mopolo,” Gwamnishu said.

Bright Edafe, spokesperson of the Delta police command, when contacted to comment on the incident said he was yet to receive information on the incident.

Meanwhile, Bolanle Olabimtan, TheCable’s judiciary correspondent, was injured in an attack by suspected thugs at a polling unit in the state during the February 25 presidential and national assembly polls.

Olabimtan, who was deployed to the state to cover the presidential and national assembly elections, was at a polling unit in Ika north-east LGA when suspected hoodlums invaded the area.

On the election day, around 4:20 pm at Owa Model Primary School, ward 03, Ika north-east LGA, some persons arrived at the premises in a red Toyota Highlander and a white bus and ordered officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to discontinue the vote counting, while police officers looked on.
