The Lagos state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has alleged that “some persons have hired thugs to disrupt” its house of assembly primaries scheduled for Saturday.

The party said the primaries would hold across 40 constituencies in the state.

Gani Taofik, the state publicity secretary of PDP, urged those planning the attack to steer clear or risk arrest.

“Intelligence reports have it that some persons in Lagos state have contracted thugs to pretend as PDP members at some selected venues of the primaries,” Taofik said in a statement issued on Friday.

“The contracted thugs are to provoke violence at those venues and thereby unleash injuries on innocent PDP members whilst the image of the party is soiled.”

The party vowed to arrest any agent provocateur working under any disguise, maintaining that it had concluded arrangements to provide a level playing ground for all its aspirants.

“We have concluded arrangements for the exercise and all aspirants shall have equal opportunities at the venues.

“We urge our aspirants and delegates to comport themselves to prevent any acrimony at the venues.”
