Tiger Woods and his girlfriend Lindsay Vonn have announced the end of their three-year romantic relationship.

The two parties released separate statements confirming the split. Lindsay Vonn made her announcement on her Facebook page

“After nearly three years together, Tiger and I have mutually decided to end our relationship,” Vonn wrote.

“I will always cherish the memories that we’ve created together.”

“Unfortunately, we both lead incredibly hectic lives that force us to spend a majority of our time apart. I will always admire and respect Tiger. He and his beautiful family will always hold a special place in my heart.”

Woods then confirmed the break-up on his website, saying: “I have great admiration, respect and love for Lindsey and I’ll always cherish our time together. She has been amazing with (daughter) Sam and (son) Charlie and my entire family.

“Unfortunately, we lead very hectic lives and are both competing in demanding sports. It’s difficult to spend time together.”

The announcement was a premeditated move to preempt unwanted media speculation which would have questioned Tiger’s fidelity.

In November 2009 Tiger Woods was thrown into a media scandal of seismic proportions when his string of extra marital affairs with about a dozen women were exposed in the tabloids. The scandal led to the breakup of his marriage and negatively affected his golfing career.

Woods and Vonn then met a charity event in 2012 and announced their relationship in 2013.

Tiger Woods is, till date, one of the most successful golfers of all time with four masters tournament championships. Lindsay Vonn is a four-time World Cup ski champion Olympic gold medalist.
