Armed policemen, personnel of the Department of State Services (DSS) and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps(NSCDC) are mounting strategic positions around Banquet Hall, Ilorin Kwara state, where the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is holding a fresh governorship primary election.

TheCable had reported how the primary of Sunday was cancelled following a confrontation between supporters of two leading aspirants.

Some supporters of Bolaji Abdullahi, former spokesman of the party and an aspirant, had alleged that there were plots to rig the exercise in favour of Razak Atunwa, another aspirant.

Security operatives failed in their bid to restore normalcy as ballot boxes were smashed while other materials were carted away.

Tunde Ashaolu, publicity secretary of the PDP in the state, told TheCable that the tight security was to prevent a repeat of the violence which led to the suspension of the previous exercise.

Motorists as well as motorcyclists were prevented from entering the road leading to the venue.

The exercise is ongoing
