Tinubu appoints Chisom Obih, Ralph Akinfeleye to university governing councils

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Chisom Obih and renowned communications specialist Ralph Akinfeleye to the governing councils of two federal universities.

The appointments, confirmed on Tuesday in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, special adviser to the president on information and strategy, fill existing vacancies.

Obih will serve on the governing council of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi state.

He is flling a position left vacant by the death of a previous member.

Akinfeleye, a professor, was appointed to the governing council of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun state.

He is a former head of the department of mass communication at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and also previously served on the governing council of Yakubu Gowon University of Abuja.

Akinfeleye takes over from Wahab Owokoniran, who was appointed pro-chancellor and chairman of the Federal University of Transport, Daura, Katsina state.

In a separate announcement, President Tinubu also appointed the principal officers for the Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology in Tsafe, Zamfara state.

Ibrahim Adamu Yakasai, a professor and l retired Nigerian Army colonel, has been named the university’s vice-chancellor.

A medical professional, Yakasai previously served as provost of the College of Health Sciences at Bayero University, Kano.

He is also the chairman of the Committee of Provosts of Colleges of Medicine in Nigeria.

The president also appointed Hamisu Yusuf Yelwa as the university’s registrar, Usman Nakazalle Sanusi as the bursar, and Shehu Aminu Liman as the librarian.
