President Bola Tinubu has appointed Omotenioye Majekodunmi as the new director-general (DG) of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC).
Majekodunmi takes over from Nkiruka Madueke, the pioneer DG of the council, who was appointed in June 2024.
In a statement on Thursday, Tinubu thanked Madueke for her “dedicated service” and the “strong foundation” she laid for the agency.
Majekodunmi, an environmental lawyer and climate finance expert, brings over 17 years of experience to the role.

She has worked with both international and local institutions on renewable energy, carbon markets, and climate governance.
Until her appointment, she served as financial adviser to the council and was instrumental in shaping Nigeria’s climate policies and global climate diplomacy.
The presidency said the appointment reaffirms Tinubu’s commitment to tackling climate change “as both an environmental necessity and a driver of sustainable economic growth.”
