President Bola Tinubu has commended members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for their “confidence” in the party at the just-concluded by-elections across the country.

On Saturday, by-elections were held in the 16 constituencies in 12 states.

In a statement on Sunday, Tinubu said APC “won in 12 constituencies, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) won in two, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won in one, and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) won in one” of the elections.

The president also praised Nentawe Yilwatda, the APC national chairman, for the party’s “emphatic first victory recorded under his leadership.”

“Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda has shown leadership capacity and demonstrated what is achievable when popular candidates are fielded and with unity of purpose among party leaders,” he said.

Tinubu commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for organising “hitch-free and mostly devoid of violence” elections.

“To all APC faithful and the electorate, thank you for the confidence reposed in our party,” the president said.

“Be assured that our Renewed Hope slogan is not a mere slogan. Our destination is a better, more secure and prosperous Nigeria. We shall take you there, by the Grace of God.”

Tinubu then called on other candidates who participated in the elections to continue to be guided by the spirit of sportsmanship, fair contest and magnanimity.

However, INEC earlier declared the Kaura Namoda south constituency by-election in Zamfara as inconclusive due to the cancellation of results in polling units in Sakajiki and Kambarawa wards.
