President Bola Tinubu has reappointed Mohammed Alkali as the managing director of the North-East Development Commission (NEDC).
Alkali, pioneer managing director of the commission, was first appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Buhari did not renew the appointment of Alkali before leaving office.
Sadiya Umar, former minister of humanitarian affairs, had reportedly wanted Abu Hashidu as MD.
In May, Shehu Garba, a former presidential spokesperson, said Buhari ordered the Hashidu board to commence duties without senate confirmation.
In a letter read by Godswill Akpabio, president of the senate, on the floor of the upper legislative chamber on Wednesday, Tinubu requested that Alkali be screened for another term of four years.
The president based his request on section 5(b) of the North-East Development Commission establishment act of 2017.
