Tinubu renames Federal University of Medical Sciences Azare to honour late cleric Dahiru Bauchi

President Bola Tinubu has approved the renaming of the Federal University of Medical Sciences, Azare, to Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi University in honour of the late Islamic cleric.

Tinubu announced the decision on Saturday during a condolence visit to the Bauchi state government and the family of the deceased cleric.

The president described Dahiru Bauchi as a man who loved humanity, delivered impactful knowledge, and dedicated his life to the path of Allah.

“From today onward, I announce the change of name to immortalise him from the Federal University of Medical Sciences, Azare, to be known as Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi University,” Tinubu said.

“We all came from the Almighty Allah and we will return to Him. And the best thing for us is to continue to pray for peace, stability of our country, for economic prosperity, development, and to live the values that he left behind.

“May Allah grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus. May God continue to keep all of you safe, keep our country together, give us peace and prosperity.”

Bala Mohammed, governor of Bauchi, commended the president for the condolence visit, describing it as a mark of deep respect for the late cleric, his family, and the people of the state.

Mohammed noted that Tinubu’s personal visit, after earlier delegating Vice-President Kashim Shettima to attend the burial rites, reflected the president’s affinity for the late Sheikh.

“We are really grateful and delighted for this visit,” the governor said.

Bashir Sheikh Dahiru-Bauchi, speaking on behalf of the family, thanked the president for sending a high-level delegation to the funeral prayers and for personally condoling with the family.

After the visit, Tinubu proceeded to the Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa International Airport, from where he departed for Lagos.
