The presidency has announced the sack of Fegho John Umunubo, a special assistant on digital and creative economy in the office of the vice-president.

Abiodun Oladunjoye, director of information and public relations at the State House, announced the decision in a statement on Monday.

He said Umunubo’s disengagement, which takes immediate effect, means he no longer represents the administration.

“Stakeholders and constituents of the digital and creative economy, at home and abroad, as well as the general public are hereby notified that FEGHO JOHN UMUNUBO, who hitherto had served as the Special Assistant to the President on Digital and Creative Economy (Office of the Vice President), has been disengaged with immediate effect,” the statement reads.

“Kindly note that he no longer represents this administration in any capacity. Henceforth, anyone who interfaces with him in the name of President Tinubu’s administration does so at his or her own risk.”

Oladunjoye urged stakeholders and constituents of the digital and creative economy to take note of the directive.

Umunubo’s dismissal comes less than two weeks after he was involved in an Instagram exchange with Arese Ugwu, the author and movie producer.

Ugwu had accused him of “making false promises” on behalf of the federal government in respect to the Investment in Digital and Creative Enterprises Programme (iDICE) and the N5bn Creative Fund Initiative.

The author said Umunubo had no authorisation to enter into agreements with filmmakers and alleged that he owes her N10 million.

Umunubo, who recently shared Instagram photos of himself in Canada, is believed to have been under suspension before his dismissal.
