Uba Sani, Kaduna governor, says President Bola Tinubu will inaugurate the College of Petroleum and Energy Studies (CPESK) in the state in July.
The governor said Tinubu has also granted a provisional license to the college to operate as a private postgraduate university.
Sani made the announcement after a visit by Ahmad Galadima Aminu, the executive secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund, on Monday.
The governor said the federal government has pledged its support for the fund “to ensure the smooth running of this important institution”.

“We cannot make progress in a fast-changing and complex society if we fail to develop local capacity. This College, if well supported, has the potential of developing local manpower that will change the face of Nigeria’s Petroleum Industry,” he said.
Ahmad Galadima revealed that the college will admit its first cohort of PhD students in September 2025, adding that the PTDF received a total of 3,702 applications for the Split-Site PhD Programme.
He said screening and interviews are currently ongoing.

At the same time, successful candidates will be admitted into five faculties, including the Faculty of Computing and Telecommunications Technology, the Faculty of Earth and Applied Sciences, the Faculty of Energy Law, and the Faculty of Management Sciences.
He added that the private postgraduate institution will offer 19 academic programmes across six departments and three faculties.
Galadima also said the PTDF signed a strategic partnership with three UK universities, including the University of Strathclyde, Robert Gordon University, and the University of Portsmouth.
‘’These partnerships will support the delivery of a split-site postgraduate studies, where students will primarily study at CPESK here in Kaduna, with short academic stays at the partner universities in the United Kingdom,’’ he added.
