Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT), says President Bola Tinubu will inaugurate the renovated Abuja International Conference Centre (AICC) as the first project to mark his second year in office.
Speaking on Friday in Abuja after inspecting the project, Wike commended Julius Berger construction company for the quality of work put into the renovation of the AICC and for adhering to the agreed timeline for the completion of the project.
The minister said the centre was in bad shape before Tinubu directed its rehabilitation and upgrade, noting that since it was constructed in 1991, the AICC has not received a facelift.
He attributed the refurbishment of the centre to “effective leadership” of President Tinubu.

“No responsible leader would allow such a facility to be referred to as an international conference centre, given its deplorable state,” he said.
“Today, the centre has been transformed into a world-class facility, thanks to Mr President’s leadership and support. That’s what leadership is all about.”
Wike also inspected Julius Berger’s ongoing extension of Obafemi Awolowo Way (N5) from Life Camp junction to Ring Road III.

He said the first phase of the project would be among those that Tinubu would inaugurate to celebrate his second anniversary in office.
Wike said the contractor kept to the promise to deliver the project by the agreed deadline.
“Their commitment to excellence was evident in every aspect of the project, from the equipment used to the skilled labour employed,” he said.
“This project is a testament to the renewed hope agenda, and we’re thrilled to see it come to fruition.”
