President Bola Tinubu has mourned the passing of Abiodun Aremu, the labour activist.

Aremu died on Sunday after a hit-and-run accident while crossing the road near his home in Ota, Ogun state.

In a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, his special adviser on information and strategy, Tinubu described Aremu as a steadfast defender of labour rights and a tireless fighter for workers’ welfare.

He praised Aremu’s unwavering commitment to empowering workers and advancing their rights.

The president extended his condolences to the labour movement, civil society groups, and the family of the late unionist and rights activist.

Tinubu also acknowledged the significant role Aremu played as a partner to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), and other civil society organisations in their shared pursuit of improved conditions for Nigerian workers.

He described Aremu as a courageous comrade who stood firm in his beliefs, adding that the late activist was “a teacher, an organiser, a conscience of the people” who inspired generations with his dedication to integrity, justice, and patriotism.
