Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, a Fulani socio-cultural group, has unveiled a vigilante group in Nasarawa state.

The unveiling of the vigilante group took place on Wednesday in Lafia, the Nasarawa capital.

Bello Bodejo, national president of the Miyetti Allah, said the “Nomad vigilante group” will assist security agencies in combatting criminal activities in the state.

He said the vigilante group is made up of 1,144 fulani youths selected from various communities in the 13 LGAs of the state.

Bodejo said profiling of persons interested in joining the vigilante group is ongoing, adding that the target is to recruit up to 4,000 youths.

He promised that the group will assist in fishing out all criminal elements in Fulani communities and hand them over to the security agencies for necessary actions.

The Miyetti Allah president assured that the group will cooperate with security agencies and adhere to the provisions of the law in carrying out its duties.

He appealed to Nigerians to desist from ethnic profiling of criminals.

“Every ethnic group has criminal elements among them, so if a Fulani man or woman commits a crime, he or she should be treated as a criminal just like others and not a Fulani criminal,” NAN quoted Bodejo as saying.

He said Miyetti Allah is also looking at inaugurating similar vigilante groups in others states across the country.

Speaking at the event, Umar Nadada, Nasarawa commissioner of police, commended Miyetti Allah for establishing the vigilante group.

Nadada said the police are ready to work with all groups interested in securing lives and property in the country.

The police commissioner urged the group to always inform security agencies about any suspicious activity in their respective areas for prompt action.

Nadada advised members of the group not to take the laws into their hands, noting that they are not authorised to carry firearms.
