‘To ease subsidy removal hardship’ — Kwara announces three-day work week

The Kwara government has directed the reduction of workdays from five to three to cushion the hardship of the petrol subsidy removal and high transportation rate on public servants.

In a statement on Monday, Susan Oluwole, head of the service, said the directive was declared by Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, governor of Kwara.

In his inaugural speech on May 29, President Bola Tinubu announced that the era of fuel subsidy was gone.

Following Tinubu’s declaration, Nigerians were thrown into tension as petrol prices increased across the country and long queues were also reported at many filling stations.

Oluwole said public workers in the state can now work for only three days every week.

She directed “all heads of ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) in the state to immediately work out a format indicating the alternating work days for each worker under them”.

She warned all public servants against abusing the generosity of the governor, adding that her office would intensify the regular monitoring of all MDAs to ensure rigorous compliance with the directive.
