Today, not tomorrow

YouNow is created for the everyday individual who seeks to gain a deeper understanding of Self in order to achieve their highest potential, while staying true to their essence. These write-ups are designed to help you become more conscious and deliberate in your interactions and day-to-day living

It’s been a while, and it is so good to be back here with you.

The holidays are usually a time to relax, have fun and spend time with the family, but life doles out lessons regardless of the time and season.

A few weeks ago; I lost my brother, and in my last article, I spoke about how to deal with people who have lost loved ones, by staying in the moment with them.

Following this, I have been doing a lot of reflecting on life, both that of my own and the interactions of the billions of other lives out there, yours inclusive.

Many of us are really just caught up in events and situations resulting in an inability to just live, be happy and present in the moments of our lives.

Most are busy sacrificing living for pursuing goals.

Ironically, being present helps you achieve your goals faster and live a more fulfilling, balanced life.

Are you constantly worrying about the future? Letting the present slip away, allowing time to rush past unobserved and unseized, and squandering the precious seconds of our lives as we worry about the future and ruminate about what’s past. When we’re at work, we fantasize about being on vacation; on vacation, we worry about the work piling up on our desks. We dwell on intrusive memories of the past or fret about what may or may not happen in the future.

Learn to recognize when you’re doing this, and then practice bringing yourself back to the present. Just focus on what you’re doing, right now. Enjoy the present moment.

The present is all we have, and there has to be a deliberate effort in making it what we want it to be.

At the end, the measure of our life’s worth will be how much we’ve been able to bless the world that received us with our giftings. Not in the things you possess, but in the difference your life has made to others.

Be thankful for the people in your life. Protect the relationships that matter to you. Pay attention when they speak to you.

See the beauty in things. Slow down and savor each and every moment. Tune into the sights and sounds and awaken your senses to the world around you.

Give. Time, energy, resources. You have the ability to provide value to the other person. Each of us can, all of us should.

A musician must make music, an artist must paint, a poet must write, if he is to be ultimately at peace with himself. What a man can be, he must be.”

Make today worth your while.
