Togo's Mawouli wins Lagos' golf classic
Ayao Mawouli, Togolese professional, has won the 3rd eTranzact Golf Classic, a Professional Golfers’ Development (PGD) Tour event, at Lakowe Lakes Golf Club, Lagos.
Mawouli dethroned Francis Epe, who missed the half way cut at the championship after he shot 72, level par and 68, four under par to tower above the field of 88 players that competed for the title.
The winner’s cumulative 140 score earned him the title as he pocketed the N10.2 million winner’s cheque, leaving Kamalu Bako, former Nigeria’s number one player, to settle for the runner-up cut of N6 million.
Ivorien Kouakou Richard-Kouame finished in third place as Ibrahim Ocheje, Oche Odoh and Jean-Romaric Kouassi shared the fourth place in a three-way tie.

The event was reduced to a 36 holes play after rain denied the players of the closing round when Femi Olagbenro, the PGD tour commissioner, declared the course unplayable due to prolonged downpour.
Rukayat Bola Mustapha from Ikoyi Club 1938 and Blessing Abdul from St Mark Golf Club, Otukpo both tied at +14 over 158 for the ladies’ bragging right and the winner’s cheque.
Niyi Toluwalope, managing director, eTranzact, disclosed that it was perfect for the rule to be applied to allow the event’s official presentation to proceed.

“We have aligned with our event partner, the Professional Golf Development Tour, who has aligned with the rulebook on the best decision in this circumstance. The most important thing for us is the interest that the championship has attracted from across Africa with the countries that are represented here,” Toluwalope said.
“We intend to continue to expand on the leverage the eTranzact golf classic gives the African youth while our space would continue to give us the motivation to develop this youth and sports space.”
