Team Nigeria’s Enoch Adegoke couldn’t complete the men’s 100 meters final at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics after pulling off the race due to injury.

The 21-year-old was accelerating among the top 4 when he suddenly halted his canter while holding his stiffening right hamstring and was unable to end the race.

Earlier in the day, he became the first Nigerian man to qualify for the final of the 100 meters at the Olympics in 25 years.

The race ended with Italy’s Lamont Jacobs storming the finish line at a European record of 9.80 seconds to become the first man, other than Usain Bolt, to win the men’s top Olympic sprinting prize in 13 years.

Fred Kerley of the US took silver with a time of 9.84 seconds, while Canada’s Andre de Grasse, a bronze medallist at the 2016 Rio Games, repeated the feat in 9.89 seconds.

South Africa’s Akani Simbine finished fourth with 9.93 seconds, followed by America’s Baker Ronnie, who clocked 9.95 to finish fifth.

Hughes Zharnel of Britain was disqualified for a false start at the beginning of the race.
