Tokyo Olympics: Amusan narrowly misses out on medal in women’s 100m hurdles
Team Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan have narrowly missed out on a podium finish after placing fourth in the women’s 100 meters final at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics.
The race, which took place in the early hours of Monday, was Nigeria’s second final at the 32nd Olympiad.
Amusan was one of the country’s medal prospects at the games after she stormed to a personal best of 12.48 seconds few months before the competition began.
However, she could not replicate such a feat in the final after dipping 12.60 seconds to place fourth in the race.
The 24-year-old had a bumpy start before picking up her pace around the 50 meters mark, but she could only play catch up as the top three were well in sync with the rhythm from the gun to the finish line.
The gold medal went to Puerto Rico’s Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, who clocked 12.37 seconds and had earlier ran an Olympic record of 12.26 seconds in the semi-final.
Kendra Harrison of the USA won the silver medal at 12.52 seconds, ahead of Jamaica’s Megan Tapper, who clocked 12.55 seconds.
