D’Tigress, the Nigerian women’s basketball team, suffered a third consecutive defeat in the hands of Japan at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics on Monday morning.

The Nigerian team, who had a disappointing outing at the summer games, lost all three of their group matches to end their appearance at the Olympics.

It was 102-83 at the end of the four periods to the host nation.

Though the Otis Hughley’s girls started out strongly, the Japanese side took charge of the match and dominated all four quarters of the games.

The first quarter ended 30-22 in favour of the Japanese.

The Second-quarter was not better for the Nigerian side as it ended 16-21.

In the same vein, the third-quarter was all Japan as they had a 27-point lead (33-19).

Nigeria fought back to take the fourth set 26-18 but their last-minute effort was not enough to tame the Japanese onslaught.

In the first game, Nigeria was defeated 87-62 at the hands of France.

The game against USA was not better as they were defeated 81-72.

The development comes a few days after D’Tigers, the Nigerian men’s basketball team, were also eliminated from the games after suffering their third consecutive defeat.
