According to Reuters, the movie, which is a hybrid of animation and live-action, will debut on Friday in theaters and on the HBO Max.

The movie’s trailer sees the cartoon characters threatening to disrupt a celebrity wedding at a posh New York City hotel.

Commenting on the project, Chloe Grace Moretz, who stars in the movie as a newly hired hotel worker, said the forthcoming film will reignite the long-standing rivalry between the two characters.

“It really does harken back to the Tom and Jerry that we love,” Moretz said.

“They don’t shy away from them bonking each other on the head and dropping the weights on each other and really going at each other.”

Also speaking, Colin Jost, a ‘Saturday Night Live’ comedian, commended the timing of the project, which he described as “pure, goofy comedy.”

“They just take out all their feelings with violence,” Jost said. “I think it’s very refreshing to see right now, and people can let out a lot of their frustrations through these characters.”

Created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera in 1940, Tom and Jerry have continued to pull the strings and enjoy global appeal among many children.

The characters have featured in a series of animated short films followed by various TV shows and feature films over the last eight decades.
