Tottenham Hotspurs, English Premier League side, have sacked Argentine coach, Mauricio Pochettino as manager of the North London club.

The club announced it’s decision through Daniel Levy, its chairman, on Tuesday evening.

Pochettino, who led the club to the Champions League final last season, where they succumbed to defeat in the hands of Liverpool, had spent five years at the club.

The club has finished in the top four of the league in the past four seasons. The have, however, had to deal with a poor start to the season, winning just three games in twelve matches.

They have also been thrashed 7-2 by Bayern Munich in this season’s Champions League, and eliminated from the League Cup by a lower division club.

Daniel Levy stated that the decision was a difficult one the club had to make.

“We were extremely reluctant to make this change. It is not a decision the board has taken lightly, nor in haste. Regrettably domestic results at the end of last season and beginning of this season have been extremely disappointing,” he said.

“It falls on the board to make the difficult decisions – this one made more so given the many memorable moments we have had with Mauricio and his coaching staff – but we do so in the club’s best interests.”

Although the 47-year-old gaffer did not win a cup with the club, he oversaw the building of their 60,000-seater London stadium.

The managerless club will face West Ham United in the Premier League on Saturday.
