Tragedy struck on Saturday morning as a mother of a bride was allegedly shot dead by a soldier at the Ekpan Junction in Uvwie local government area of Delta state.

The deceased was on her way to the wedding ceremony when the incident occurred.

The first son of the deceased, Alero, told reporters that a tricycle operator flouted the soldier’s order when he was flagged down, forcing him to open fire, which led to the woman’s death.

“This is not enough reason for one of the soldiers to release bullets on my mother,” he said.

One of the deceased’s daughters, who addressed journalists at a police station, said the alleged killer had been whisked away by members of the joint taskforce (JTF).

“They have not arrested the soldier. JTF whisked him away. His colleagues at the road block together with him are now at Warri Area Command,” she said.

“It was my mother that was shot not my sister that is wedding today. She was coming for the wedding.”
