The federal government has commenced a secret trial of suspected Boko Haram insurgents.

Last month, Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the federation, said prosecutors had been appointed to handle the cases involving over 1,600 suspects.

He also said four judges have been appointed by chief judge of the federal high court to sit on the cases and dispose of them “expeditiously”.

BBC quoted sources at the ministry of justice as saying four judges have begun the trials of the suspects at a military facility in Kainji, Niger state.

It is not known how many of the suspects have been arraigned so far.

More than two million people have been displaced and many killed in the north-east because of the activities of Boko Haram.

Many of the displaced people now stay in camps across the country.
