The Taraba state election petitions tribunal has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw the certificate of return issued to Abel Diah, speaker of the state house of assembly.

In its ruling on Wednesday, the tribunal held that there were irregularities in eight of the 48 polling units in Diah’s Mbamnga constituency.

The tribunal held that election in the affected areas did not conform with the provisions of the electoral act 2010 and directed INEC to conduct a fresh poll within 90 days.

The All Progressive Congress (APC) had challenged Diah’s victory.

The ousted Diah, who was the deputy speaker in the 7th assembly, was impeached in 2013 0ver alleged financial misappropriation.
