The national assembly election petitions tribunal sitting Delta has nullified the election of Francis Waive as a member of the house of representatives.

Waive, who won the February 25 election on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC), represented Ughelli north/Ughelli south/Udu federal constituency in the house of representatives.

He was sacked on Monday by the tribunal over improper documentation.

The tribunal declared Solomon Ahwinahwi, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as the winner of the election.

Meanwhile, in a statement after the ruling, Waive rejected the judgement, saying the ground on which he was sacked is not known to law.

“Let me state clearly as I did before the Tribunal with documented evidence that I did submit all required documents including my qualifications as required by INEC,” the statement reads.

“The nonpublication of the same on the INEC portal is definitely not my making or within my power to effect. And I did write INEC on this.

“Very importantly, however, the nonpublication by INEC is not known to our laws as a ground for disqualification of a candidate.”

Waive, who was first elected to the lower legislative chamber in 2019, asked his supporters to remain peaceful, noting that he has asked his lawyers to appeal against the judgement.
