Tributes are pouring in for Usman Umar, deputy commissioner of police (DCP) in charge of operations in the federal capital territory (FCT), who was killed on Monday.

Umar was reportedly killed during a protest by members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), also known as the Shiites, in Abuja.

He was said to have been shot while trying to pacify the protesting Shi’ite members. He later died at an undisclosed hospital.

Nigerians have taken to Twitter to pay their last respects to the fallen hero.

“No one deserves untimely death, not DCP Umar or the 6 Shiites killed today. This is what we have all being screaming since 2015 but some kept laughing at us. See where we are today,” said Deji Adeyanju.

“DCP Umar was a complete gentleman and very amiable. I’m in shock! May Allah SWT overlook his shortcomings and grant him the highest place in Jannah. Amin,” a user wrote.

“Too bad he left in such an avoidable way, no way his fault. God rest his soul. God bring solace to the souls in despair for his demise. We love and cherish your contributions, sir. Salute, ” another user said.
