Troops of the operation Sharan Daji of the Nigerian army have arrested Yahuza Wuya, vice chairman of Anka local government area of Zamfara state, over alleged link to suspected bandits.

Clement Abiade, acting information officer of the operation, confirmed the arrest of Wuya in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja, on Thursday.

Abiade said the council vice chairman was picked up on April 13 based on credible intelligence linking him to bandits’ activities in Wuya and Sunke communities.

He alleged that Wuya “seamlessly assist in selling rustled/stolen cows and donkeys as well as giving information about troops, other security agencies and vigilantes’ movement to the bandits.’’

The acting information officer also alleged that the suspect aided “the release of a notorious gun runner (Sani Yaro) from the Gusau prison.’’

Abiade also said the troops arrested two suspected informants along Burukusuma-Sabon Birni road in Sokoto state. He named the suspects as Ibrahim Bangaje and Ado Bayero.

He said they would be handed over to relevant security agency for possible prosecution after investigation.

Mansur Dan-Ali, minister of defence, had accused some traditional leaders of providing information to bandits.

“However, in spite of the concerted efforts of the Armed Forces and other security some unpatriotic persons including highly placed traditional rulers in the areas were identified as helping the bandits with intelligence to perpetuate their nefarious actions or to compromise military operations,” Dan-Ali had said.
