Troops kill ‘21 terrorists’, recover weapons in Katsina

The Nigerian Army says troops of Operation Fasan Yama have killed 21 suspected terrorists in Ruwan Godiya, Faskari LGA, Katsina state.

In a statement posted on X on Friday, the army said the troops overpowered the terrorists in a fierce gun battle, forcing some of them to abandon their base and flee.

According to the statement, some of the terrorists drowned in a nearby river while trying to escape.

It added that the troops also recovered several weapons, including guns, rifles, magazines, explosives, communication devices, mobile phones, and motorcycles during the operation.

“In another daring operation, the gallant troops of Joint Task Force north-west Operation Fasan Yama successfully assaulted terrorist enclaves in Ruwan Godiya, Faskari local government area of Katsina state, on 23 May 2025,” the statement reads.

“The troops subdued the terrorists in a fierce firefight, forcing them to abandon their base and flee.

“During the ensuing pursuit, 21 terrorists were neutralized, with some succumbing to drowning in a nearby river.

“The operation also yielded a significant seizure of a large cache of arms and ammunition, including guns, rifles, magazines, explosives, communication devices, mobile phones, and motorcycles.”

On April 12, the Katsina government said over 100 suspected bandits were killed by troops in a string of operations across the state.

The troops also reportedly killed a terror kingpin, who served as “second-in-command to an ISWAP-linked leader”.
