The Nigerian army troops of the 27 task force brigade of Operation Hadin Kai have reportedly killed many ISWAP terrorists in Yobe.

Zagazola Makama, a publication that focuses on the Lake Chad region, said the ISWAP had positioned its men at the outskirt of Buni Yadi at about 6:21 pm on Monday to attack the military base in the town.

The publication said several mortar bombs later fired by the ISWAP fighters with targets on the base fell in different directions without any impact.

It quoted a military source as saying that the terrorists fled toward the Goniri axis of Borno state on sighting the troops.

The source said that the troopers chased the terrorists and engaged them in a gun battle that resulted in the death of many of the fighters while others escaped with gunshot injuries.

The terrorists were later sighted evacuating the dead bodies of the fighters, the source added.

“After sighting them, our troops fired several Artillery towards the locations. This is their second failed attack on our troops. Last week, they claimed to fire 5 mortar shells at our base and claimed it was a victory even as it only landed in the bushes,” it said.

“They wanted to try their luck today and they lost badly.”
