Troops of the Nigerian Army under Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), with support from the air component and local security outfits, have reportedly killed more than 20 insurgents during a week-long operation in the north-east region.

NAN quoted a military source as saying the offensive took place between August 23 and 30 in Gujba, Gubio, Sabsawa, Whumtakum, Mandarari, Gajigana, Konduga, Banki, and Loskori Kura in Borno and Yobe states.

The source said the troops also arrested several collaborators and suppliers linked to the insurgents.

Soldiers reportedly recovered AK-47 rifles, rocket-propelled grenade tubes, bombs, hundreds of rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and large quantities of logistics materials.

“They also safely detonated improvised explosive devices (IEDs) during the clearance operations,” the source said.

“Additionally, soldiers intercepted 242 bags of NPK fertiliser intended for insurgents, who use it in producing IEDs.”

The source said the offensive disrupted insurgent supply lines and denied them freedom of action, creating safer conditions for economic and social activities in the north-east.
