Troops of 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have killed two “terrorists” in Takum LGA of Taraba state.

In a statement on Tuesday, Aliyu Danja, acting deputy director of army public relations, said the operation was conducted on September 15.

He said the troops were responding to intelligence reports of a planned attack on Chanchanji community by the Bojo terrorist group.

Danja added that the operation formed part of Operation Lafiya Nakowa, designed to tackle insurgency and criminal activities in the state.

“The operation led to an armed engagement with the terrorists along the Demeva–Chanchanji road,” the statement reads.

“The troops effectively neutralised one terrorist, forcing the others to retreat.

“In a follow-up mission to intercept the fleeing suspects, troops pursued them to the Demeva–Gbudu axis.

“This location was identified as a planned crossing point into the Ananum community in Donga LGA. The troops engaged the remaining terrorists in a second firefight, neutralising one more.”

The army said weapons recovered from the insurgents included a G3 rifle, 16 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and a motorcycle.

Kingsley Uwa, commander of 6 Brigade and sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, commended the soldiers for their gallantry.

He restated the brigade’s resolve to “conduct aggressive operations against all criminal elements threatening the peace of Taraba state and its environs”.
