Troops of the Nigerian Army have killed 10 insurgents and recovered arms, ammunition, and equipment during a night operation along the Gamboru–Dikwa–Marte axis of Borno state.

Sani Uba, media information officer of the joint task force (north-east) Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), announced the killing of the terrorists in a statement on Sunday.

Uba said troops of sector 1 from 24 task force brigade of the OPHK executed the operation, which, he noted, followed the killing of more than 50 terrorists in a previous encounter at Katarko.

He added that the troops intercepted the insurgents while attempting to invade Gamboru Ngala from the Flatari axis.

He said that after the initial encounter, the fighters retreated towards Dikwa but ran into another ambush by troops along the Dikwa–Marte road.

“At approximately 23:50 hours on 25 October 2025, while manning a pre-established ambush position, the troops identified and engaged the hostile elements,” the statement reads.

“The unit delivered heavy and accurate suppressive fire, forcing the insurgents to retreat in disarray.

“At first light, following a period of limited visibility, the area was systematically exploited. The subsequent clearance operation confirmed a total of 10 insurgents had been neutralized.

“A thorough search of the vicinity led to the recovery of a significant cache of arms, ammunition, and equipment.”

Uba said a search of the area led to the recovery of several weapons, including five AK-47 rifles, one PKT machine gun, three locally made guns, two fabricated pistols, and ammunition consisting of loaded AK-47 magazines, 7.62 mm rounds, and linked ammunition.

According to him, the troops also recovered two motorcycles, two bicycles, a radio, a water flask, a raincoat, a blanket, and assorted charms.

“The success of the ambush underscores the effectiveness of ongoing counter-insurgency efforts and reaffirms the commitment of Operation Hadin Kai to sustaining offensive actions, protecting civilians, and restoring lasting peace and stability in the north-east region,” Uba said.

“The military high command commended the troops for their gallantry, vigilance, and tactical proficiency during the operation.”
