Troops of operation Safe Haven have recovered two corpses of herders in Mabuhu-Wawan Rafi, Zangon Kataf LGA in Kaduna state.

Samuel Aruwan, commissioner for internal security and home affairs, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.

Aruwan said the herders — Yusuf Ahmadu and Mustapha Bakoas — were declared missing after they did not return from their daily routine of taking cattle for grazing.

He said the cattle were later found wandering about the area with some bearing gunshot wounds, while the corpses of the herders were discovered shortly afterwards.

It is not yet clear what happened to them, and Aruwan said investigation is ongoing to discover what led to the deaths of the herders.

He said Nasir el-Rufai, governor of the state, has sent condolences to the families of the herders, and prayed for the repose of their souls.

In another development, Aruwan said soldiers have arrested nine suspects in connection with an attack on Kurmin Gandu village in Zangon Kataf LGA.
