Troops repel attack, kill four ISWAP fighters in Borno

Troops of 25 brigade, Operation Hadin Kai have reportedly killed four fighters of the Islamic State in West African Province (ISWAP), including Modu Tafjid, a bomb maker in Kumala village along Maiduguri-Damboa road, Borno state.

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert in the Lake Chad region, the ISWAP fighters ambushed the troops who alongside the Civilian Joint Task Force repelled the attack.

Sources reportedly said the ISWAP fighters detonated an explosive on one of the patrol vehicles of the troops which was followed by gun shots.

A source reportedly said the troops engaged the ISWAP fighters in a heavy gun battle but defeated them.

“Modu Tafjid, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) specialists who led the attack and three others were killed in the aftermath of the fight while several other terrorists escaped with bullet wounds,” Makama quoted a source as saying.

The development comes days after many fighters of Boko Haram and ISWAP were killed in an airstrike by the Nigeria Air force in Bama LGA of Borno.
