Troops in Taraba during the operation
The Nigerian Army says it has rescued a senior officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and five other victims from suspected kidnappers in Taraba state.
The army said it carried out the rescue operation alongside other relevant security agencies.
Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, said the rescue followed a distress call received at about 11:40pm on April 27 from Abe Samuel, a youth leader, who reported that a Toyota Hilux vehicle was under attack along the Wukari–Kente road.
Troops deployed to the area found the abandoned vehicle with registration number FG 117-B03 and a punctured tyre but the occupants were missing.

According to Makama, a joint search and rescue operation was immediately launched and by 6:00am on April 28, the troops successfully rescued Musa Hudu, the deputy commander of NDLEA Zone 1, Ibadan, and five others from a nearby bush.
Makama said the victims were unharmed and preliminary investigation revealed that they had fled into the bush after three armed men attacked their vehicle and shot at them with a dane gun.
The victims were safely escorted out of the area and allowed to proceed with their journey after their vehicle was repaired.
