Trump: Everyone should evacuate Tehran — Iran can’t have nuclear weapons

United States President Donald Trump has asked everyone to leave Tehran, the Iran capital, as Israel intensifies its bombing campaign. 

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump also reiterated that Iran must never be allowed to possess nuclear weapons.

“IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON. I said it over and over again! Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!” he wrote.

Shortly after Trump’s remarks, explosions rang round Tehran.

Air raid sirens have repeatedly sounded across Israel in recent hours as Iran ramps up reprisal attacks.

The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) confirmed the missile threats and said its air units are actively working to intercept the projectiles.

The IDF urged citizens to follow emergency instructions and take shelter.

“Israel’s air forces are operating to intercept and strike where necessary to eliminate the threat,” the IDF said in a post on X.

World leaders meeting at the Group of Seven (G7) summit in Canada called for a de-escalation, noting that this is the most severe flare-up between the two regional adversaries in years.

They also insisted that Iran must never be allowed to develop nuclear weapons.

Trump left the summit earlier than scheduled, sparking speculation about US involvement in potential peace efforts.

French President Emmanuel Macron told reporters that the US had initiated a ceasefire proposal, suggesting that discussions between Israel and Iran were underway.

“If the United States can get a ceasefire, that’s a very good thing,” Macron said.

“France would support it.”

Asked about Trump’s early departure from the summit, Macron said there were US offers on a ceasefire that could lead to wider talks.

“I think that’s a good thing,” he said.

However, Trump denied that his return to Washington had something to do with peace negotiations.

“Wrong! He has no idea why I am now on my way to Washington, but it certainly has nothing to do with a Cease Fire. Much bigger than that,” he wrote on Truth Social.
